Becoming a Star at Work
Infectious Enthusiasm
by Mac Hammond
The world is moved by highly motivated people. By men and women who want something very much, believe very much, and inspire those around them to believe along with them. It’s one thing to keep yourself personally motivated to achieve excellence on the job.
It’s another thing to have the ability to impart that kind of motivation to those around you. Few things cause you to stand out as a leader and make you more valuable to an organization than being the kind of person who inspires your co-workers to go higher and farther.
That kind of infectious enthusiasm is one of my top eight attributes that will make you a stand-out on the job.

The Importance of Relationships
Key Associations
by Mac Hammond
Are your key associations helping your business grow or holding it back? We’ve been exploring the impact of relationships on your ability to achieve your dreams. The truth is, we become like those with whom we associate.
As the book of Proverbs says, “A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kinds of friends he chooses.” Your relationships will either propel you forward or hold you down.
So ask yourself: “What do my closest relationships say about who I am and where I’m going?”

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be
moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and
after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly,
painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at
the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the
window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse
what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such
wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man
was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, “Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.”
Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own
situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared,
is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have
that money can’t buy.
“Today is a gift, that’s why it is called the present.”

AS A REMINDER:
From: Rev. Elisha A. Eddie <superleadersint@yahoo.com>

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man
was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help
drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only
window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The
men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families,
their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service,
where they had been on vacation.
Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he
would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he
could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for
those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened
by all the activity and color of the world outside
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played
on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers
walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the
city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window
described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the
room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.
Although the other man couldn’t hear the band – he could see it.
In his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with
descriptive words. Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse
arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of
the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was
saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

The Mission Message
Focus Your Efforts
by Mac Hammond
What is your business or organization all about? Can you articulate “the message” in a single sentence? Can your staff? When every member of your organization can tell a total stranger what you are all about in a few concise sentences, you’ll have a unified core of workers focusing their efforts on a single long-term goal.
But that can’t happen if you don’t cast the vision. The Bible says, where there is no vision the people are unrestrained. One of God’s keys to organizational growth is making sure you’ve put the vision before the people you’re leading.
So the question is, “Have you?”

This is where the concept and the practical nature of spiritual gifts come in. There are a variety of gifts and there are a variety of ministries, but the same Lord working in all and through all. No one has to do everything; no one can. It is up to us to find out where we fit and what God put us here to do. Soon you will be just as passionate about something because it’s your thing. This is the way it’s supposed to be. We only get frustrated when we forget this and try and take on everything, or get so overwhelmed that we take on nothing at all.
All of this should just make us marvel at the wisdom of God even more. He’s designed us all with different abilities and different interests so that we are not only good at what we do, we do not have to be frustrated or depressed over what we aren’t good at. When we all do our part in the body of Christ, everyone gets a job, everyone gets honored and everyone’s important. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.
Question: What has God given you a passion for, and how can you honor God through serving Him in exercising your passion?

Why do we all have different passions? So everything that’s supposed to get done will get done.
Sometimes we get overwhelmed because we are constantly exposed to people with various passions for service, and when they represent their cause, they are so committed to that which has captured them that we feel guilty for not sharing their zeal. We seem indifferent in comparison.
When I was in college, we had chapel every day and almost every day we heard a message from someone who had a passion for some particular ministry. They were usually in some ways recruiting us for service, whether it was in missions, or in the church, or in society, or among the poor. It was overwhelming, and often frustrating, because everyone made every concern sound like the only thing any caring person would support.
The same thing happens in our churches. Sometimes we feel guilt because we don’t have the same passion as the last person who talked about missions, or abortion, or the homeless, or marriage, or singleness, or men’s ministry, or AIDS prevention, or prisons, or evangelism, or the military. What we forget is that there are so many needs because there are so many of us to meet them. We aren’t supposed to get our bell rung by every appeal that comes by. We are a body made up of different parts and different hearts; we don’t have to all be moved by the same issues and needs.

“Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:2-3
Question: What do you admire most about the natural beauty around us, and have you stopped to really see it lately?

THE WONDER OF A CHILD
By Darren Hewer

- Join TruthMedia’s online daily chats & Bible studies to explore God’s nature and expand your faith: http://thelife.com/interactive/chat.html
Please open your Bible and read Psalm 78:1-4.
Little six-year-old Timothy skipped home at a leisurely pace. His elementary school was only a 5 minute walk from his house, but it took him a lot longer than that to arrive at home. It was the first day of spring. The sun shone brightly. the wind whistled gently through the air, and it seemed as though the entire world was blooming … alive after its winter slumber. At seemingly every turn, the natural world around him aroused his amazement and wonder: a dancing butterfly, a fuzzy caterpiller, a colorful flower, all alive with growth and life and wonder!
Sometimes we’re almost like polar opposites of little Timothy when it comes to God. We get accustomed to God’s grace. Blind to His glory. Oblivious to His love. When there’s work, plus family, plus church, plus everything else, it’s easy if we’re not careful to become distracted.
When was the last time you were in awe of God? While must constantly strive to increase our knowledge and understanding of our Lord, we should never lose the sense of wonder at who He is and all He has done for us.
Jesus called the children around Him, “took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.” (Mark 10:16) Can you approach Jesus as a child, not with a childlike intellect (1 Corinthians 13:11) but with a childlike attitude? A childlike attitude will keep us humble as we continually are reminded of God’s high exaltation, our lowly place, and (despite of our lowly place) how God has lifted us up with Him when we put our trust in Him, so that He may even call us “friend”. (John 15:15)
